White rot wood found in the forests of North Carolina. Taken from deciduous trees such as the Red Alder, Cottonwood, and White Oak. This decayed wood crumbles at your fingertips, providing a fully edible mixture for Isopods, springtails, millipedes and beetles. A necessary food source for detritivores, and perfect addition to any substrate.
Sterilization:
All wood is kept frozen in one of our freezers before purchase. This is to prevent pests and unwanted hitchhikers from contaminating the product. Freezing allows the substrate to retain all beneficial bacteria and microbial life without removing any nutrition, unlike heat treating methods.
