Anubias Lanceolata

Anubias Lanceolata

Anubias Lanceolata is also commonly called Anubias Afzelli.

Rosettes come 3-6" tall, as the sample I'm holding.

EMERGENT-GROWN

Anubias Lanceolata is an a thin-leaved plant very similar to Anubias Frazeri and Anubias Minima. Minima has longer, thinner leaves that tend to ruffle just a little bit on the edges, while Frazeri tends to have fatter (while still longer and pointed) leaves.

It should be placed in the front, as it will stay small and reproduce through lateral nodes. Slow growing, but you'd eventually be able to snip off sections for a new plant.

These types of plants do not like to be buried, as their little roots will quickly rot. You can use thread or Cyanoacrylate super glue to attach it to rocks, driftwood, or other decorations. They stay neat and tidy!

Anubias are hardy and slow-growing. Perfect for tough livestock such as goldfish and certain cichlids. Tolerates lower light, and is pretty difficult to kill in my opinion!

One thing to note: As Anubias are slow growers, algae growth can be a concern. Just keep an eye on your parameters, and put your lights on a little plug-in timer. Six hours of light is plenty.

Growing requirements:

  • 65-80 Degrees Fahrenheit
  • Ph 6-8
  • Low to Medium light intensity.
  • Slow growth speed

As I like to keep real ecosystems in my aquariums, there's always the possibility of harmless snail or dwarf shrimp hitchhikers!
