Boredom is a behavior trigger

Many “problem behaviors” are really unmet needs: not enough chewing, climbing, foraging, or novelty. Toy rotation is a simple system that keeps enrichment fresh without buying new toys constantly.

The 3-bin toy rotation system

  • Bin A (This week): 2–4 toys in the cage/play area
  • Bin B (Next week): different textures and challenges
  • Bin C (Resting): cleaned and stored

What to include

  • Shreddables (paper, palm, bird-safe fibers)
  • Chews (wood, cuttlebone)
  • Foraging toys (treat puzzles)
