Neocaridina: The Beginner Shrimp
Cherry shrimp (Neocaridina davidi) and color morphs (blue velvet, yellow, orange pumpkin) are the most forgiving freshwater shrimp available — tolerating pH 6.5-8.0 and temperatures 65-80°F. Caridina: The Advanced Challenge
Crystal red and bee shrimp require soft acidic water (pH 5.8-6.8, TDS 100-150), active substrate, and RO water remineralized with a shrimp-specific product. More demanding, but among the most beautiful freshwater invertebrates when conditions are right.
Feeding and Maintenance
Shrimp graze constantly on biofilm and algae. Supplement with shrimp-specific sinking pellets and blanched vegetables 2-3 times per week. Do not overfeed. Weekly 10-15% water changes with temperature-matched, conditioned water are essential.
