Feeding Chinese Water Dragons

Insectivore-Dominant Omnivore

Chinese water dragons are primarily insectivores. Build feeding around live crickets and dubia roaches as staples. Rotate in black soldier fly larvae (high in calcium), hornworms (high moisture), and silkworms for variety. Gut-load all feeders 24-48 hours before feeding.

Calcium and D3 Supplementation

Dust feeders with calcium plus D3 twice per week. Without adequate calcium and UV-mediated D3, water dragons are at serious risk for metabolic bone disease.

Adult Dietary Additions

Adult water dragons can receive occasional pinky mice as supplemental protein — once every few weeks at most. Overfeeding rodent prey leads to obesity and fatty liver disease. Leafy greens offered a few times per week — some dragons eat them readily, others ignore them.
