Captive-Bred Are Non-Toxic
Captive-bred poison dart frogs are completely non-toxic. Their alkaloid toxins come entirely from specific wild invertebrates — captive-bred animals raised on fruit flies and springtails never develop those compounds. They're brilliantly colored, diurnally active, and genuinely rewarding to keep.
Diurnal Activity
Poison dart frogs are active during the day — rare for amphibians. A well-planted dart frog vivarium with active frogs is genuinely absorbing to watch.
Temperature and Humidity
Most commonly kept species need temperatures between 72-78°F. Humidity should be maintained at 70-100%. A misting system is essential for maintaining this range consistently.
UVB Lighting
A low-output UVB bulb (2.0 or 5.0) provides benefits for D3 synthesis. Quality LED grow lights designed for live plants also support amphibian health. Use a 12-hour light cycle.
