The Frog That Tolerates Handling
White's tree frogs are robust, calm, and many individuals will sit comfortably on a hand for extended periods. For someone who wants a frog that's genuinely interactive rather than purely observational, White's tree frogs are the clear starting point. They regularly live 15-20 years.
Temperature: Cooler Than You'd Expect
They do best at 75-80°F during the day, with nighttime drops to 65-70°F. Avoid sustained temperatures above 85°F. In most homes, room temperature is sufficient without supplemental heating for much of the year.
Enclosure
Provide a tall enclosure — at least 18 inches of height — with multiple climbing surfaces. Cork bark, bamboo sections, and large-leafed live or artificial plants provide appropriate surfaces. Use a screen or ventilated enclosure. Humidity: 50-60% — lower than many tropical frogs require.
Activity
Crepuscular — most active at dawn, dusk, and into the night. Don't judge activity by how the gecko looks at noon. Males produce a loud duck-like call during warm months.
