Enclosure
Adults need a minimum 4-foot enclosure. Provide a deep substrate layer of clean play sand or sand-soil mix for burrowing. Multiple hides at both warm and cool ends.
Temperature — Non-Negotiable
Uromastyx need basking temperatures of 120-130°F at the basking surface. This is not a typo. An animal kept at typical reptile basking temperatures of 90-95°F is functionally being kept cold. Use a halogen flood bulb or dedicated basking lamp and always verify with an infrared temperature gun.
Herbivore Diet, No Water Dish Needed
Uromastyx are strict herbivores that obtain moisture from their food. They do not need a permanent water dish. Their kidneys are adapted for extreme aridity.
